Privacy Policy
StudyWalls is built for students to create digital sticky-note study walls. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and what choices users have.
Last updated: August 7, 2026
Short version
- Users can edit locally without signing in.
- Signing in with Google lets users save walls across devices.
- Walls are private by default unless a user chooses to share a link or add a collaborator.
- StudyWalls does not sell student wall content.
- StudyWalls does not use student wall content for targeted advertising.
Information StudyWalls collects
StudyWalls may collect the following information depending on how the app is used:
- Account information: name, email address, user ID, and profile photo from Google Sign-In.
- Wall content: wall titles, sticky-note titles, note text, examples, colors, sections, positions, sizes, and timestamps.
- Sharing information: collaborator email addresses, wall visibility, and share-link status.
- Local browser data: a local recovery copy of the current wall saved in the browser with localStorage.
- Analytics and technical data: page views, sign-in clicks, wall creation, template use, note creation, exports, device/browser information, and similar product events.
How information is used
StudyWalls uses information to provide and improve the app, including to:
- Let users create, edit, save, and export study walls.
- Sync signed-in users' walls across devices.
- Show a user's private wall list.
- Support optional sharing and collaboration.
- Protect the app, troubleshoot bugs, and understand which features are useful.
Google and Firebase
StudyWalls uses Firebase and Google services for authentication, cloud storage, hosting, and analytics. This includes Google Sign-In, Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Firebase Hosting, and Firebase or Google Analytics. These providers process information so StudyWalls can operate.
Local storage
If a user does not sign in, StudyWalls can still save a recovery copy of the current wall in that browser. This local copy stays on the device and may be lost if browser data is cleared. Signing in is required for cloud saving across devices.
Wall privacy and sharing
Cloud walls are private by default. A wall is not meant to be visible to other users unless the owner chooses to enable sharing, copies a share link, or adds a collaborator. Anyone with access to a shared link may be able to view the shared wall depending on the sharing setting.
Student and child privacy
StudyWalls is intended for students, including older students, to complete class assignments and study work. Children under 13 should use StudyWalls only with permission from a parent, guardian, teacher, or school as required by applicable law. If a parent, guardian, or school believes a child has provided personal information without proper permission, contact StudyWalls so the account or wall data can be reviewed or deleted.
School use and education records
If a teacher or school asks students to use StudyWalls, the school may have its own responsibilities under student privacy laws and school policies. StudyWalls should not be used to store sensitive education records, grades, discipline information, health information, or other confidential school records.
Data retention and deletion
StudyWalls keeps account and wall data for as long as needed to provide the service or until deletion is requested. Users can clear local browser data, delete wall content, or request deletion of cloud account data. Backup, security, and log copies may take additional time to expire.
Security
StudyWalls uses Firebase security tools, authentication, and Firestore rules to help protect user data. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, so users should avoid adding passwords, private personal details, medical information, grades, or highly sensitive information to sticky notes.
When information may be shared
StudyWalls may share information with service providers needed to operate the app, when a user chooses to share or collaborate, when required by law, or when needed to protect StudyWalls, users, or others from harm. StudyWalls does not sell student wall content.
Your choices
- Use the app locally without signing in.
- Sign out of Google at any time.
- Keep walls private by default.
- Turn off sharing for a wall when sharing is no longer needed.
- Clear local browser storage from the browser settings.
- Request access, correction, or deletion of cloud data.
Changes to this policy
StudyWalls may update this Privacy Policy as the app changes. The updated date at the top of the page shows when it was last revised.
